Today’s follicle count is the same as last time. I have one follicle at 14 mm and a few 11+ mm. The two in my left ovary are about 9 mm. I asked the doctor if that meant retrieving 4-5 eggs, and he said that he thought he would get 5-6 eggs. He wasn’t recommending cancelling the IVF cycle, since he feels like 5 (up into the teens) is an OK amount of eggs to work with. (The average number of eggs for someone my age is 10.) The doctor also said that, based on my (much higher) follicle counts prior to the procedure, I could cancel this cycle and try again with higher doses of medication, since most of the cost of the procedure is for the egg retrieval and beyond.
The medication for this cycle cost $3500. Doubling the meds would be double the money, I’d think. We spent all of our savings on the current IVF cycle, so we don’t have anything extra to buy all new meds. We’d save money in the long run if we scrapped this cycle and started again, but since we don’t have any money right now, I’m just going to continue this cycle and hope it works out. The doctor did say my lining looked good, so that’s something.
We’ll use the two extra vials of Menopur if the Gonal-F runs out Sunday morning. We’re still on track for a Tuesday egg retrieval.
